Blueberries to Improve Your Vision
Blueberries have well documented and positive effects on
the improvement of vision, reduction of eye fatigue, irritation,
nearsightedness, and night blindness, and restraint of cataract
development.
The story of the discovery of the Blueberry as a help to eyesight
goes back to the Second World War. British Air force pilots often
ate blueberry jam on their bread. It was discovered that those
pilots eating the jam were far more accurate in the bombing accuracy
than other pilots.
Blueberries contain generous quantities of anthocyanins ( which
make them blue ), and these compounds have "P-vitamin" functions
in humans, strengthening capillaries and peripheral circulation.
Several European studies documented the relationship between bilberries,
a European cousin of blueberries, and improved eyesight. Japanese
researchers showed that blueberries helped ease eye fatigue.
It could be that improved blood flow in the eye allows for better
vision and prevents eye problems.
More recently, anthocyanins in blueberries have been studied for
similar effects on vision, including macular degeneration in the
elderly.
Research around the world has indicated that the anthocyanin content
in blueberries may improve night vision and prevent tired eyes.
